Lola's Lounge: When A Blogger Stops Blogging

Recently I've been thinking about the blogging community. During my blogging journey there have been bloggers that I've faithfully followed. These are the blogger's whose reviews I look forward to. They make smile to myself and feel inspired to read. Then one day, I go to visit and their blog is closed up. Done. Finished. The worst for me is when this happens without warning. Either the blog no longer exists or there is a lack of updates for months-to-years, and I finally succumb to the idea that my beloved blogger is done blogging for good. I tend to adapt better when they leave a final goodbye post, but I still get bummed out all the same. I was wondering, dear readers, how you deal when some of your favorite book bloggers close-up shop. Do feel that a good-bye post helps? Are all blogs doomed to eventually end? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  1. I had that happen to me a few months ago, one blog I followed and really enjoyed just disappeared with no warning. It was frustrating and sad. I have a few very close blogging friends that I hope never stop blogging, but that may be a slightly impossible hope. In the end I think it's always hard, but a good-bye post helps.

    1. Thank you for your thoughts Kay. I agree. It feels abrupt and unsettling when a blogger just stops without word. I find a goodbye post to be helpful, but I do mourn a bit. Blogging is a lot of work, it's hard to make a life long commitment. ;)

  2. I hate when they go. I wish more blogs would morph into more about their lives rather than leave.

A good bye post definitely helps. As does Twitter.

    Great question!

    1. Ooooh...that's a great idea Juju! I love the concept of morphing one's book blog into a different blog!

Twitter is another great source to say goodbye! Thanks for your input Juju! :)

  3. Oh I despise when a blog goes dark with no warning. I much prefer when there is a goodbye with some reason as to why. Especially if the blog has been around for a year or more.

It always makes me sad when a blogger decides to shut down. But at the same time I totally get it when it happens. Blogging isn't always easy and if someone's life gets busy - with family, work, school - I totally get that blogging is the first thing to go.

I have yet to meet a book blogger who has been blogging about books for longer than 6 years. So it feels somewhat impermanent. But I'm hopeful that as blogging gets to be more "popular" there will be bloggers doing this for longer periods of time. Great topic!

    1. I agree. It really bothers me when a blog gets shut down completely. I feel let-down.

You make some great points. It makes sense that in the grand scheme of things that blogging is the first thing to go.

Thanks for your input Rachel! :)

  4. I like good bye posts. It lets me know that they are leaving and for how long. Hopefully they come back, but if they don't, there are plenty of more blogs to read out there! I always wonder why a blogger stops.
