Book Summery (Via Goodreads): All her life, Barrie Watson has been a virtual prisoner in the house where she lived with her shut-in mother. When her mother dies, Barrie promises to put some mileage on her stiletto heels. But she finds a new kind of prison at her aunt's South Carolina plantation instead--a prison guarded by an ancient spirit who long ago cursed one of the three founding families of Watson Island and gave the others magical gifts that became compulsions.
Stuck with the ghosts of a generations-old feud and hunted by forces she cannot see, Barrie must find a way to break free of the family legacy. With the help of sun-kissed Eight Beaufort, who knows what Barrie wants before she knows herself, the last Watson heir starts to unravel her family's twisted secrets. What she finds is dangerous: a love she never expected, a river that turns to fire at midnight, a gorgeous cousin who isn't what she seems, and very real enemies who want both Eight and Barrie dead.
Book Review:
Where to start...First of all, let me admit to you I am a sucker for a good supernatural story that is based in the South. It's amazing to me that the author, Martina Boone, is not southern, but actually was born in Prague. This story hits all my favorable points. The main character is flawed, yet determined. Eight makes for a great supporting character and potential love interest. I would love for Pru's back story to be fleshed out a bit more. The Watson manor is a character within itself, there's much more to be explored. There is so much secrecy and suspense, it's near impossible to set this book down. If you're looking for good mystery set in the South, look no further. I'm very much looking forward to the sequel.
Cover Art Commentary:
I love this cover. It's simplistic, yet elegant. The color provides a nice background. The simple white design provides a nice polish.
Rating:
I love this cover as well. Every aspect of it. I can't wait to read this book. I got it for Christmas.
